How to I find out who my HSRs, First Aid Officers and Fire Wardens are?
You will find names, photos and contact numbers for all of these community roles on your HSE noticeboards. This list changes frequently so please ensure you keep an eye on the notice boards for any changes.
What is an HSR?
A Health and Safety Representative (HSR) is a person who has an interest in the health and safety of the workplace and the people who work in that workplace.
An HSR is often nominated by the workgroup or self-nominated to represent that workgroup when any health and safety issues arise. Ideally an HSR is included in discussions when there is an HSE issue within the workplace. The HSR is then able to discuss solutions with both management as also the HSE Team to help ensure an appropriate outcome is achieved.
The HSR will be provided training so they are aware of the requirements of this voluntary role; they will also join the HSE Consultative Committee as a representative of their site.
I’m interested in becoming one of these – who do I speak with about this?
If you’re interested in volunteering for one of these roles, firstly discuss this with your manager. You can also have a chat with one of the individuals currently in one of these roles to learn more about it.
You will finally need to discuss this with your HSE team as they manage all appointments.
Your HSE Manager can also provide advice if you require support.
